Four balls of fluffy white fur made their debut at the Toronto Zoo on Friday, as the first litter of white lion cubs ever born in Canada were unveiled.

The introduction was made nearly 12 weeks after the lion cubs were born.

The four male cubs joined their mother Makali in one of the zoo’s transition dens, and displayed the normal behaviours of four young brothers.

The cubs were more rambunctious than they were during their first appearance in a video released by the zoo in November, in which they became instant stars.

The lions showed off for the cameras Friday, as they played and tackled each other, in a more youthful demonstration of the hunting skills they would develop in the wild.

The cubs, who are each expected to reach a weight of more than 190 kilograms, are part of an endangered species of lion that is found in the Timbavati region of South Africa.

Four-year-old Makali, and the cubs’ father, Fintan, were among the first pack of white lions brought to Canada in 2012.

As part of the season of giving, the zoo is allowing visitors throughout the holidays an opportunity to meet the pack of young cubs.
